As I sit here on this cold cold January day surrounded by my kids and husband, a house that needs to be cleaned, meals that should be cooked...I watch the inauguration. I am inspired by all the events going on through the television. Inspired by the talk about what American was built on. Inspired by all those passionate about their beliefs. I can't turn away from the sound on the television or the information constantly coming out of my computer via facebook and twitter.
There is another side I see though. A hateful side, a side where people can't see hope in anything or anyone.
I am a proud republican.
I am conservative{thought not as conservative as others}.
I am pro-life
I am adamant about the rights and treatment of those in uniform
I am for working for what you have
I am also for helping those that need help
I am for listening before judging
I am for actions to back up your words
I could go on and on. I have my beliefs and I want others to have their beliefs wheather they align with mine or not. I voice my opinions and disagree with things going on around me but I still have hope and I am sad for those I see that are just filled with hatred. Is this what we want for the future? For the next generation? For our kids?
Hatred doesn't breed hope all I see it breed is hopelessness and arrogance.
We are supposedly breeding a generation of equality and respect, but are we? Around me I don't see it...
I want my kids to see that we can disagree but that doesn't mean we have to shut ourselves off from the views of others. That we can learn something from a view we don't agree with. Call me naive but I can't say, "do as I say not as I do." We must first show humility and do as we say and hope others follow. It doesn't mean we don't have a voice and won't speak out against injustice but we do it with a hope for something different and not for a hatred that we must lash out.
I am teaching my kids to not let others sway their beliefs
I am teaching my kids to speak up for what they believe
I am teaching my kids you can compromise without compromising your morals
I am teaching my kids to listen and not judge but teach
I am teaching my kids to learn from others whether you agree with them or not
I am teaching my kids to ask more questions
I am teaching my kids to roll with it and make the best out of what you have
I am teaching my kids that life may not be fair but there is equality out there
I am teaching my kids to work hard for what they want
I am teaching my kids to help someone else without their self in mind
I am teaching my kids that there is hope where they see darkness
So as I prepare the next generation that will proceed me{my kiddos} I will begin by not only teaching through words but through action! I see a hope for them!
