This past weekend we went up to the in-laws so the kids could go fishing and enjoy the lake. Sadly a couple days before Derrick got something in his ear canal and had to have a procedure to get it extracted so he couldn't get his ear wet. We thought this was going to put a damper on the weekend but luckily he barely noticed and didn't complain about it at all!
From the moment we got there everything just seemed different, you could feel the breeze from the lake and the air just felt fresher around you! The kids immediately wanted to go to the "dam" to jump off the bridge. Alexis was able to jump with her uncles but Derrick couldn't go in so he just waded in the water and fished. It was great to see the smile on his face as he caught his first fish of the year. Lucas and Kourtney didn't jump in but were able to float down from the boat dock. They didn't like it as much because it was so cold but they loved waded in the water and playing with the cattails.
Later in the weekend we went over to the lake. Just being there cools off the day by about 10-15 degrees. Derrick and his uncle went out in the canoe to fish, Alexis swam around in the water, Lucas and Kourtney played with sand toys at the edge of the water, Kris waded over to the stream and went fishing, and I went back and forth between everyone. The kids even tipped the canoe for fun a couple times. It was definitely the picture perfect day at the lake that you visualize!
Sometimes being away from something for so long can remind you just how great and simple it really is!
