This whole soccer event was considered a "Fun Day," so it wasn't that big of a deal but it was the first time we were really going to see the new soccer club as a whole and how they run things. Derrick was able to get together with 2 soccer friends he made to create a team for the 3v3 tournament. To say he was excited is an understatement. He was so excited to get back on the field and complete against some other boys. The club was a little disorganized so the tournament didn't turn out as expected. They were only able to play 1 game because of the number of teams and timeline. He did have a good time though showing off his defense skills!
Derrick also participated in a juggling competition and took 2nd! In his words, "I should have taken 1st...the other guy touched the ball with his hands." I knew he would do well juggling, anytime he has the ball he is tapping it from foot to knee to head. He also thinks the other boys should be allowed to start the ball with their hands instead of their feet. He's my "everything is fair" boy! Frustrates me at times but makes me laugh other times!
There were a ton of other fun for all games. All the kids really got into the speed kick game. They each tried to kick the ball as hard as they could to see what mph it would register. It wasn't very precise so sometimes it would malfunction and read 80-90mph. The kids thought this was hilarious, so they tried over and over again to get the highest malfunction score. I think they topped out at 96mph...So fun!
All in all we had an agreeable first impression. While not what we are use to there is nice families, nice players, a good atmosphere, and they are pushing the kids forward in their soccer abilities! Change is change and you just have to get use to it.
